Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I had a one-hour session and worked on Reading and Math. For reading, we worked on strengthening her reading comprehension skills, covering various question types, such as: identifying specific phrases or words in passages, understanding context-dependent phrases, overall point of view or tone of the author, and others. Then, for math, she and I covered algebra, polynomials, degree of the polynomials, exponents, equalities, and a little bit of geometry."
"The student and I worked primarily on the PSAT math section. He is doing a good job of making accurate calculations and is able to solve more problems than he did before. We are working on some of the trickier concepts and word problems."
"The student did quite well on the Reading and Writing portions of the PSAT homework I left him last time, but he backslid on the Math, with several questions left blank and a continuation of his troubles with data analysis questions. Additional practice on data analysis in this session began to help, but we will need to look at this more thoroughly. We will continue to work on this next session."
"The student had a few PSAT math questions, and we went through them without much trouble. Once I hinted at concepts such as similar triangles and ratios, she recognized how they could be useful and seems to have a good grasp of these fundamentals. Her pre-calculus class next semester should enable her to complete the trigonometry questions as well."
"The student had a great first session! We primarily focused on reviewing some sections of writing and reading. She should complete the online sections we discussed today for our next meeting, and we will review her progress next Wednesday."
"The student had all his math facts down, so we won't need to revisit that. We looked at his homework briefly, then went to the PSAT. This is a new paradigm for him, since the PSAT (and the SAT) focus on applying what you know to problem solve in a new way. He seems to enjoy the challenge!"
