Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on metabolism questions from the MCAT book on carbohydrates and lipids. Then we started questions on nucleotides. We plan on finishing up nucleotides next Monday and then working on the biologically significant molecules from the last chapter of the organic chemistry section of the review book."
"She and I began our session by working a couple of CARS passages. We took the first one a bit slower to work on strategy and to make sure she was understanding the key aspects of what she read; however, we let her attempt the second on her own completely in a timed environment. She performed very well on both passages and continues to impress me with her CARS preparation and performance. After this, we walked through several problems she had trouble with in her own practice. This included many organic chemistry concepts including naming, isomers, optical activity, bond strength, resonance structures and leaving groups. We finished the session with an organic chemistry related practice passage about bile salts."
"The student and I used our final session to cover advanced arithmetic and number theory questions. We covered a few problem solving and critical reasoning questions from his homework as well. I assigned him the balance of the questions from this set for homework, but also told him to go into the book and wrap up the questions that we had not yet covered."
"The student did some timed practice sections to reduce the number of wrong answers. We reviewed missed questions and did some short timed drills. She is heavily impacted by stress during testing, so we are working on ways to deal with that."
"The student has been dutifully working through the problem sets assigned. We decided to double back to previous topics instead of plunging on, looking at algebra-based questions from the guide. This afforded us the opportunity to discuss sequences again, and second-order equations and solving equations simultaneously. She's going to double down on these question sets this week and do some work on critical reasoning in her review book."
"The student is progressing well. She identified interest problems, sequences, rate and work problems, ratios, and consecutive integers as areas of weakness. We finished reviewing her practice exam today and hammered out some interest problems. She will focus on learning interest and rate/work problems for next session."
