Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has gained confidence and his work has become neater. We worked a problem set on surface areas and volumes of spheres, prisms, cylinders. We also started a review for his next test covering Pythagorean theorem, special right triangles, and areas of various figures. He should memorize the relationships of 30-60-90 triangles and 45-45-90 triangles. We briefly discussed additional math classes. Good session."
"The student finished reviewing for his test (that he had on Tuesday). The test would cover the theorems concerning arcs, chords, tangents, and secants of circles. Last session, we went through the first half of the review worksheet that his teacher had provided and so we finished the review this session. We went through each problem step by step and confirmed that we had obtained the right answers by checking it with the answers provided by the teacher. His biggest problem was deciding which theorems to apply. I tried to highlight the signs present in each problem that would signify which theorems were appropriate. Once the signs were recognized, he didn't have too much difficulty applying the theorem to answer the questions. He did have a little trouble with the more complex problems that required multiple steps to arrive at the answer. The only method to alleviate the trouble is practice and to become very comfortable with the theorems."
"Reviewed how to create the area formula for trapezoids. Reviewed homework packet invoking area of trapezoids, kites, and regular polygons. Discussed how to break up larger shapes into more familiar shapes like triangles and parallelograms. Discovered the formula for the area of a regular polygon by breaking it into triangles, then rewrote it in terms of perimeter."
"The student and I continued to practice problems with circles and tangents. I allowed her to do more problems independently and teach them to me as she did them. She was able to pick up on her own mistakes by doing so. We spent the last half of the session reviewing some basic algebra, such as functions and linear equations."
"The student and I went over area and perimeter of many shapes. We covered her review which had shapes like triangles, quadrilaterals, rhombuses and other larger regular polygons. Her exam is tomorrow and from what I could tell she is adequately prepared. Her conceptual thinking was flawless."
"We worked with inscribed angles and arc measures of a circle, as well as equations of circles and properties of tangent lines to prepare the student for his next test. Throughout today he demonstrated really strong algebra skills in applying the Pythagorean theorem and in solving multistep equations."
