Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student's first score was analyzed. Her composite score was her best yet. We primarily focused on the Science section, working on mapping, breaking down viewpoints, and reading charts. We also studied linear equations and triangle geometry."
"The student's homework for this week reflected the improvements we worked towards in English last time. His Reading score from homework was also back to the level he had reached in his practice test before the official in September. We worked on drilling information and question types he is still struggling with and set a practice schedule for him to follow this week. He seems overall encouraged and enthusiastic."
"This section, we covered paragraph and sentence revision. The student told me that he has been practicing English and that he feels much more confident in that area. We then switched over to math and began reviewing algebra, which is the math the student took longest ago. We covered a lot of concepts within the functions, fractions, and coordinate plane sections. I asked him to practice some science problems over the weekend to help identify the areas that he needs the most help with there. I am also sending him a couple of tables to help him review for English and Math."
"This session began with some very basic math practice from the student's workbook. We worked on one-step and two-step equations, and we began working with fractions. The student is picking up the material fairly well, but there is still a lot of math foundation to build. I left her with more equations in her workbook to have completed by our next session. We then moved on to the science section. The student is starting to get a hang of the feel of the test a little better. I assigned her a science section from her own book for practice."
"This session came after he had taken another diagnostic test, of which he only took the English and math parts. He did very well on the English section of the test, missing only three out of 75 questions. He missed a few more on the math part, but we went over every question he missed. After we finished the math, he and I actually moved on to science for a few minutes, which is the topic we plan on spending the next few weeks covering."
"This session focused on rational expressions and equations. The student appears to understand the concept, but had some difficulty factoring the expressions so that terms may be cancelled out. She appears to have a decent grasp now, but we will continue to work on the factoring portion of the problem. We also worked on clock problems (finding the angle between the clock hands at different times), which she appears to have a firm grasp on. We did some absolute value problems which she seemed to understand well, but will do a couple more in the next session to ensure she maintains her grasp of it."
