Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I spent our full session today working on vocab and the verbal section. We made a few flashcards using words from her book and adding any discernible roots and the connection between the root and the definition (e.g., "abhor"- "ab" ("away from") -> "turn away from in horror"). We also discussed as a mnemonic device memorizing short phrases to limit the range of meaning for a word (e.g., "astounding beauty"). Next, we worked through a verbal section, focusing especially on establishing the relationship between the missing words in a double-blank sentence completion. In our next session, we will return to math and focus on word problems."
"The student struggles with organization of her reading concepts. She seems overwhelmed by the amount of information required of her for studying. I have assisted her with organizing the chapters, identifying key concepts from the summary, and writing the terms down on index cards for easier studying. Since our sessions, she has improved in her reading comprehension and chapter organization."
"Today, she worked on reading a homework text ( same book as last night). She also read through two sets of sight words, she was able to correctly identify 70-75% of both lists of words (Red and Blue). She also worked on identifying missing letters in words that have the silent E at the end such as face, cake, make, cage, etc.. Lastly, she read out loud an (-ake) book in which it reviewed words, such as make, cake, and take. She was very focused the whole session, and again like last night, she tried her best at everything given to her. I will be sending the file through email for her to continue using if wanted."
"The student and I had a great initial session. We first discussed the overall format of her course. While she is performing very well on her homework assignments, she wants to ensure that she is also able to be successful when completing tests. I told her I would continue to look for resources that may be closely related to any textbook content (which would be helpful for support). We also completed a homework problem that involved the development of a cash budget. She understood the process, the reasoning behind the company's need to borrow money, and also had already done an excellent job answering the supplemental question related to why a cash budget is important."
"The student and I worked through a review of some homework problems that involve journalizing shareholder equity entries dealing with preferred stock, common stock, and treasury stock."
"The student does a great job at paying attention and actually trying to learn during the session. We have created a study plan for her so she can remain focused and achieve her goals. She is determined and I know she can do it! We discussed that by the next session she would go over F1 and F2 and also memorize trading securities and AOCI."
