The student was proactive and he was ready with all the materials when the session began today. In today's session we covered the conversion of units (cm, grams) to (m, kg). Then we covered vectors; specifically how to draw vectors, and how to add two vectors. Next, he attempted to solve his homework based on the above mentioned topics we covered. He did well and he understands the gist of the problems. I helped him understand the technical details and also showed him shorter ways to solve the same problems. Some of his homework questions require the use of graph paper and he did not have any, so his assignment before our next session is to solve those problems that require use of graph paper. We will review his solutions in the next session and address any concepts still unclear to him.

The student and I reviewed the concept of physical and chemical states of matter. We completed the homework for the weekend, with a 90% benchmark met. In addition, we completed 10 problems from the back of her "end-of-chapter problems" and reviewed her work. She is slowly making progress. I am certain that she will meet her goals given more work and repetition.

The student has a test coming up this week on thermochemistry, so we worked through her review sheet. We did problems with Gibbs free energy, heat of formation/enthalpy, entropy, and some earlier materials like pressure/gas/volume equations and equilibrium constants. It was a tough problem set, but she got through it. She should do well on her exam. I told her to check her answers with her teacher and if there are any problems/confusions prior to the test to let me know, and I will try to help.

At the beginning of our session today, I got a feeling for what the student's class is like and how her teacher does things. We watched a video together about molecular and empirical formulas before I explained the concepts. After that, we went through some practice problems on molecular/empirical formulas. She and I were also able to work through problems involving stoichiometry and limiting reactants. We were able to get a lot done, and she seemed to understand the material quite well.
