How can a History tutor help you?

If your child is struggling in history class, they may think of the subject as a series of boring lectures, dry reading assignments, and exams that focus more on rote memorization of facts than on a deep understanding of events. Your student may also view their history lessons as a bunch of dates, names, and places, without a true appreciation for how historical events relate to one another over time.

In cases such as this, a private tutor may be the best solution to your child's problems. An expert history tutor in Albany, NY, may focus on your child's specific needs to create study sessions that could be effective to meet your student's goals. We may connect you with a tutor who may assess your student's needs, determine where they need the most help, and create a tailor-made lesson plan.

The student and I worked on note taking during this session. First we reviewed the techniques from the previous system and then we went through three articles together. We used the same basic outline for each work of art and filled it out as we went through the articles. First, he read a paragraph from the passage and then repeat the most import details in his own words, which he then typed up. We kept focused on the most important details--those to identify the work, describe the work, and emphasize its importance. The student made good connections to his AP World History course, which covers some similar material. His biggest struggle is staying focused on the big picture. He seems to be improving in his ability to understand how to get to the most important information quickly. In his readings, he should keep looking for words that signal importance, focus on introductory sentences, and read the paragraph as a whole.

The student and I had our first meeting today. We discussed his English/Writing class and AP European History class. We spent a fair amount of time talking about what he's struggling with in both classes, as well as how we think we can best address those issues in the coming sessions. We then closed the session with a quick vocab review and a discussion about his current work in AP Euro.
