Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a quiz on Monday. We reviewed her study packet for the theorems that she would be tested on. Next Sunday, we will begin reviewing the last few theorems of the chapter."
"We reviewed his past week's homework for his geometry class. It's taking the previous concepts we've been working with and expanding it to include three dimensional objects. The key work we reviewed was going over breaking down a complicated three dimensional structure into a bunch of discrete parts. Once separated, the math was typically not difficult to determine. However, the key effort was making sure the distinctions were accurate and combined to reflect the overall structure."
"I assisted the student with preparing for his geometry quiz, which will be on the lateral area, surface area and volume of cones, pyramids, prisms, and cylinders. I made sure that he had all of the formulas memorized, and we reviewed his homework. He had a little difficulty finding the area of hexagons, so I worked with him on this area."
"The student has a quiz/test coming up on area of polygons and circles. We reviewed all of the formulas, and I recommended making flashcards to help her study. We did some practice problems to check her understanding and application of the formulas. She seems quite confident heading into the test."
"I worked with the student on the standard equation of a circle. I gave her a quick lesson about the basis of the equation and what all the variables mean and then let her try a problem. She comprehended very well, and was beginning to like the circle equation. It got a bit more difficult when we got to some complicated problems. For example, she was given the center of the circle and the equation of the line tangent to the circle. This required some of outside the box thinking, but we got through it together. We will continue to work on such problems until she is completely comfortable with them."
"Today we went over the student's homework from today, as well as reviewed the concepts from the past week. Today's homework was on the area of circles and their sectors which she picked up on pretty fast. We then reviewed problems on similar triangles/rectangles, area of triangles, and perimeters/arc length of circles. She seemed ok with all of the material once she looked up some of the formulas. I'll continue reviewing a couple problems on each topic every week with her in order to get her to the point where she remembers how to do the problems and doesn't have to review her notes first."
