Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had written a paragraph in French, so he put it on the board, and we went over it. He did a good job. Last time, we used the verb donner to review -er conjugations. We returned to donner today; this time to use it to discuss direct and indirect object pronouns in French. After that, we turned to partir, a new target verb. He wrote the present and passe compose conjugations on the board. Then, I gave him the stem for the imparfait and asked him to generate the imperfect conjugation for partir."
"We continued with reviews of gender of nouns, saying a few sentences with avoir and etre, and mainly identifying the different members of the family. Then we started a game of families and professions."
"Today we corrected the text the student wrote about her last trip. The grammar and the structure is very good! In order to work on her oral comprehension she listened at videos and extracts and had to answer questions. We will continue tomorrow. I'll send homework for tomorrow."
"We reviewed a chapter about food and meals. It was very effective and enjoyable for him. He has homework to complete before I see him again which contains some French grammar information (in English for comprehensibility) and a few fill-in-the-blank exercises."
"Tomorrow the student takes her opt-out exam for French 3, so this was our last session. We once again used the exercises from a French site. Overall we found these exercises quite useful."
"Both students had a lot of homework to do today, and we got through most of it. They were getting a bit restless when we started on their poetry homework, but once we got working on the story, they were getting into the swing of it. They are doing much better about thinking how French words are spelled, and remembering common ones. There grammar homework started with more pluralization which they are getting very good at, and fill in the blank verbs, which they needed some help with, but were thinking hard about. They still have to read a story and answer questions about it, so I am coming back on Saturday to help them with it."
