Hi, my name is Tim Sherry and I am one of many Varsity Tutors. I attended Jesuit High School in Carmichael, CA where I graduated with a 4.3 GPA taking multiple AP and honors courses (AP Bio, Chem, Physics B, Gov, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, English Lit, and English Lang). I also participated in several tutoring organizations throughout high school.I then attended UCLA for my undergrad degree in Political Science (Class of 2014) while also completing the pre med requirements there. At UCLA, I took the full General and Organic Chem series with labs, Life Science Physics including labs, Calculus, Biology including labs, and completed an honors thesis for the political science department.I took one gap year between UCLA and medical school where I worked in a Neuroscience and Biophysics Research Lab while TAing (teaching assistant) for several biology courses including LS 2, LS 4, and LS23L (Cells, Tissues and Organs, Genetics, and Intro to Biology Lab).I currently attend Drexel University College of Medicine where I am in my final year of MedU al school currently applying for my residency position.

I have been teaching for over 10 years and have loved every minute of it. I knew I wanted to be a teacher in the 5th grade. I enjoying helping students believe in their abilities and strengthening what they are weak in. Working through these weaknesses and getting them to believe in themselves and what they are capable of opens so many doors to them and makes anything they put their mind to possible in the future. I went to Sonoma State University for my BA in History and went on to Sacramento State for my credential and some graduate courses. I have since worked at an independent study charter school for the past 7.5 years and am now substituting for some of the local districts.I look forward to making a difference in more student's lives and helping the achieve the education they deserve!

I teach how to speak the English language properly, and I have earned two TESOL certificates through the Canadian Institute Of English.

I am a retired high school teacher. I have taught all levels (9-12 grade), and all aspects of English. No matter what I taught or when I taught it, I have always enjoyed the student-teacher connection more than any other part of teaching.I am especially good at helping with writing no matter the writer's level. Working on writing is a chance to also work on grammar, punctuation, organization, including outlining, and finally writing the paper. If a student learns this process, they can write a response for any situation.Once the process is learned then writing for other classes, all the way from a short answer to a research paper, becomes so much easier! After graduation and entering the work world, knowing how to write a response is a crucial tool. More and more businesses demand their employees write.Be it writing, or any other academic challenge, I hope to help you reach your potential, connect what you are studying to the real world, and have some fun while doing so.

I worked with students from under-resourced schools in the past, through a program called Breakthrough Sacramento, teaching Cell Biology to 7th graders. I have experience working with students individually as a Tutor. I have tutored students in grades 3-12 and lead study groups with my college peers at U.C. Berkeley and U.C. Davis.I did not have the opportunity to have a tutor myself, which made me realize how great an advantage it is to have that kind of support and resource. I am dedicated to helping students succeed in their courses as well as gain an understanding of the concepts and material. It is not enough to simply do well. I want students to first have a desire to learn. I want them to understand the material enough to be able to do well on their own, and to help teach it to others. It is only then when they can accurately and confidently teach the material to someone else that they have truly acquired knowledge and a thorough understanding.Working with students on a one-on-one basis allows me to explore different teaching and learning methods. I myself am an auditory and visual learner; however, I realize that there are many kinds of learners. Therefore, I plan to adjust methods in order to cater to the needs of the student.I am currently applying for medical school. I am a caring person and it is my hope that I will be able to learn and grow together with my clients.

I am a graduate for CSU Bakersfield with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Middle Eastern History. I am currently in the process of returning back to school to pursue my teaching credential. Ive traveled extensively in metropolitan France and the province of Qubec. Currently, I work as a Public Relations professional for an education focused non-profit.No matter how long I study, the phases of learning a foreign language remain fresh in my mind. The anxiety of new grammar and the joy of mastering it are something of a universal with students. As a Journalism student and PR professional, the precision with which I was taught to write has imbued me with a keen sense of what constitutes not just good but great writing. Editing, proofreading, and revision are second nature to me as are the intricacies of English syntax and grammar.Helping others achieve confidence in their work, no matter the topic, is the goal of my tutoring. Everyone learns differently and distinctly. If there were a one-size-fits-all to learning, everyone would use it! So, it is essential I understand my students: what do they enjoy about learning; what challenges them; how do they learn best; what are their strengths; what are their learning goals; how do their goals align with those of their classes? Suffice to say, empathy is the foundation of my teaching style.

During my undergraduate education, I studied Spanish language and culture abroad for one semester in Granada, Spain. I also attended extensive business and economics courses, including macroeconomics, microeconomics, and international economics.Thereafter, I attended the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where I graduated with a Juris Doctor degree in International Legal Studies and Business Law. I am also a licensed attorney in California. During law school, I studied law and worked in Guatemala, Spain, and Uruguay, where I communicated entirely in Spanish during internships and law classes.My unique professional and academic experiences, as well as my sincere care for success of the students I tutor, allows me to effectively tutor individuals of all ages in the areas of Spanish, California Bar Exam, LSAT, and Business. I strive to provide my students with a fun, interactive, and open learning environment.

I am a Computer Science major currently studying at CSU Sacramento starting in Spring 2016. I studied Computer Science and Engineering for three years at Sierra College, taking math, science, and computer classes for the duration. Teaching is something that comes pretty easily to me - I've been a tutor for many people before, including friends, family, and classmates. Currently I am able to tutor in math, but soon I will be expanding that to include Computer Science, Chemistry, and Physics.My students tend to be pretty successful because I'm easy to get along with; I'm friendly and easygoing. I understand that school can be difficult and stressful - I've been there, and lived it, and been on both sides of the tutor/student relationship.
