ACT Writing Tutoring review by Gene in Framingham, MA
We covered both the math and writing sections. He seemed to be doing well with the writing, so the majority of the session was spent addressing issues he had with the math section. He had a good attitude towards the material that was covered. For practice, I assigned some work in the math section

ACT Writing Tutoring review by Rachel in Framingham, MA
We began today's lesson by reviewing the last four problems in the math section. She finished the math homework I had assigned at the end of our last lesson requiring only one minute longer than the given amount of time. She answered 15 of the 20 questions correctly. The majority of the incorrect answers were the final questions of the section (the test questions are in order from least to most difficult, so this is not unexpected). We went over each of the problems she had gotten wrong, and made sure she understood how to find the answers. She is unfamiliar with quite a few geometric concepts and formulas. Some of these are listed on the test, but not all of them. Even though the formulas are listed, she didn't seem to know which formula to use when it came to geometry problems. She needs to work on memorizing the rules for special right triangles (45-45-90 and 30-60-90) as well as the properties of circles. After showing her how to solve the questions she answered incorrectly, we decided we should spend some time looking at the grammar section of the test. I asked her to do pages 438-440 while I timed her (for 10 minutes). She finished just as the time ran out, and got 10 out of the 14 answers correct. We went over the four problems she answered incorrectly, and she understood why the answer was wrong on each very quickly. Next, we moved on to another grammar section. I did not time her while she did this section. She got 14 out of 18 answers right. We looked at the incorrect answers, and then moved on to page 114. Again, I did not time her while she did this section. She got five out of six answers correct in this section! She has now had exposure to every section of the SAT's, and to the different ways that questions can be presented in each. We will continue to work on improving her ability to complete each section within the given amount of time, while getting as many correct answers as possible. As homework, she is going to do pages 398, 410-411, 434, and the essay from page 391. I have told her that she can take out one or two pages of grammar homework if this is too much for her to do between now and our next lesson. She has been doing great work, putting in a lot of effort, and is continuing to improve with every lesson.

ACT Writing Tutoring review by Terry in Framingham, MA
The student and I continued to work through GED math practice test 2. Today's topics included rational expressions with same base and different exponents; fraction subtraction and multiplication; identifying function from a graph; solving inequalities; factoring a quadratic and solving by zero product theorem. In second part of session we practiced GED science in the same site. The student continues to show growing confidence and ease with all of the work.

ACT Writing Tutoring review by Sarah in Framingham, MA
This was the student's final session. We reviewed the science section to focus on critical reasoning skills and timing. She demonstrated over multiple practice sets that she has the knowledge and strategies to successfully answer material. We spent a time discussing strategies for managing anxiety within the context of the test setting. We also discussed mindfulness strategies in general and how developing that kind of practice can help ease global anxiety she is experiencing in her other AP classes and tests.
