ACT Writing Tutoring review by Paige in Cranston, RI
We finished going through the student's SAT prep this week, and she was able to correct many of her mistakes that she made on the original test. You also do not lose points for missing questions on the new version of the test, so I think that this should help her score significantly. We also went through the reading section of the ACT from a previous month. She did not finish the last four questions, which would have cost her 4 points on the exam, but after extra time, she scored a 28.

We covered ACT Math. This is the final math session, so we mainly did a review on some topics we have already covered. We also covered a few new topics that were very easy to grasp, and that will be easy to solve on the exam. The student had a positive attitude and always asked questions when there was any misunderstandings, and we resolved those issues. We also set goals for an ideal score and came up with a strategy for the Math section. I plan to assign a few quizzes on some of the new material we covered, and the student said that he would be doing some review throughout the days leading to the test. I will also assign an English diagnostic exam and will provide a punctuation and grammar guide, so that the student can work on the test with a guide and use it as practice.

We began by going over the practice that the student completed over the weekend. She practiced some science sections, and showed improvement. She wanted to spend some time on math, so we did some coordinate geometry, which was challenging. At the end of our session, we did a section of reading as an introduction to the reading section. She did very well. She will do more science for practice this week, and math if she has extra time.

ACT Writing Tutoring review by Sarah in Cranston, RI
The student reported a composite score of 21, up from her original score of 16. She is still hoping for an increase when she tests again in next time. We reviewed her ACT study guide (the list of all the strategies developed and practiced over our sessions) and practiced applying the strategies on practice problem sets. Reading score: ACT 32, Science score: ACT 26, English score: ACT 21 Overall she did well on timing with the passages and applying strategies to work herself through difficult questions. She seemed well-prepared and confident regarding her preparation for the next attempt.

We worked on the ACT English and Science sections. The student did better than last time, but was encouraged to practice full-length test sections (English, Math, Reading, etc.) at least every other night before the test in order to push her closer to her ACT score goal. It was a pleasure teaching the student and I wish her the best of luck.
