Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is very bright and picks up skills very quickly. Continuing on from where his previous tutor left off, we went right into systems of equations with 3 variables. These problems included consistent and inconsistent equations, and the student got them right away. We also worked on mixture problems with 2 variables, and I showed him my "tic-tac-toe" method of organizing the information in the problem to easily create the equations to solve. We will be doing systems of inequalities and also nonlinear systems of equations tomorrow."
"The student and I began studying for her final by going through study packets from her teacher. We started with the first chapter material and made it through most of it with no problem. We began looking at the second pack as well. She is having some trouble remembering all the material that she has already covered, but she it is starting to come back. We will meet again later in the week after she has finished the rest of the packets."
"We covered radian and degree measure. We looked at the relationship between arc length, central angle, and radius. We also looked at angular speed and linear speed as defined on a circle, and discussed how to convert from radian to degrees and vice versa. We also discussed the unit circle and defined the trigonometric equations on the unit circle. We went over coterminal angles, and complementary and supplementary angles. We looked at identifying quadrants of angles based on the signs of the trigonometric functions. The student made progress. No extra work was left for the student, however he has 10 more problems on the worksheet that he will attempt to complete and that I will check in our next session."
"Today, we looked over three of the student's test to help prepare him for his final on Friday. We reviewed simplifying fractions using exponent rules, factoring, and trigonometric and angular speed word problems."
"This time, we focused on trigonometry - graphs of sine and cosine and variations of those (dilation, translation). We also looked at some more general trig problems, common angles and triangles, and the unit circle. The student seemed to be making good progress on understanding these topics."
"The concepts covered were graphing rational functions, factoring polynomials using synthetic division, and long division. The student felt very confident during the entire online session and showed positive attitude."
