Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I discussed his experience with SAT prep and his expectations for the test. He says the English section will be easiest for him and the math section most difficult. Today we went through a few reading passages and discussed strategies he could use when reading passages and answering questions. Then we worked on math concepts, including the distance formula, simplifying square roots, and the Pythagorean theorem. My plan is to do reading and English practice every week, focusing on test-taking strategies, and doing a review of math concepts. We will do math lessons covering commonly tested concepts and support these with example SAT questions. I asked him to start studying SAT vocab flashcards and work on a practice reading passage."
"We worked on some level 5 writing, math, and reading questions. We also worked on some ACT Science questions. She is doing extremely well, as usual. We will continue to work on hard questions and timed sections for the next couple meetings before the SAT."
"Today we discussed advantages and disadvantages of taking the SAT vs. the ACT, comparing the student's previous scores from each exam and deciding that the SAT is the best choice for the student. We then drilled for the writing section, discussing pronoun agreement and pronoun case as well as commonly tested idioms. We also spent ~40 minutes on the math section, practicing the strategy of picking values on questions with variables."
