"Today the student worked on exponents, using the online module practice. She understands how to find the value of a number raised to another number, so we focused on solving equations when either the base or the exponent were variables. She had a lot of fun, and did so well. She then worked on multiplication, where she worked with 3's, 6's, and 9's."
"Today I met with both students. The first student had several questions about her last round of math problems. We discussed how to read problems quickly, use information within the problem for faster problem solving, sketch to clarify the question, and manage scratch paper. The second student has started a new semester and is now taking Algebra 2. We discussed solving inequality problems and setting up part-whole equations."
"The student practiced figuring out the doubles facts (1+1 to 10+10). I taught her a song to help her memorize the answers. It is called the doubles facts rap. We also practiced telling time to 15 minute increments. This is still a pretty tricky concept for her so we practiced this a lot. We practiced counting 5's to help her figure out the time. She also worked in the workbook with some grammar problems. She fixed sentences that needed capital letters and end marks."
"The student is striving in the classroom. Throughout today's session the student and I discussed all of the strategies and approaches we had went over in the past few months. It has truly been an incredible experience working with such a lovely girl and seeing her make great strides in both mathematics and reading!"
"My student had standardized testing in math for the past three days, so I used this time to review some concepts that were previously presented. I had my student solve word problems that involved adding, subtracting, multiplying, or dividing fractions. I also had her underline the key words that indicated which operation to use to solve the problem. She was able to solve the problems with very minimal prompting. I used the last part of the lesson to review some multiplication facts."
"We worked on long division, double digit multiplication, subtracting 4 digit numbers, and reducing fractions. The student is getting more comfortable with me and having a positive attitude towards math. We worked on borrowing and how we go to the next number/neighbor to borrow 10 cups of sugar. That concept really stuck with him."
