"The student has a test tomorrow, so we focused on the exact items he will be asked about on his test, including the verb "estar;" prepositions, "me parece" and "me toca;" and negative sentences. I gave him some strategies to know how to use the correct forms in negative sentences, and we've been practicing a lot with different exercises. I noticed progress, and I saw him more motivated."
"Today our theme was "the restaurant." We learned new vocabulary and phrases to deal with when in a restaurant. The student always has a positive attitude when it comes to studying Spanish, so it makes it very pleasant. We also learned how to conjugate "regular verbs" in the present tense. I left him with some films to watch to further practice."
"In this session, I had the student practice reading so he could immerse himself in the reading aspect of Spanish. We reviewed the Spanish alphabet and more specifically, the sounds each letter makes in Spanish. He has progressed already since our first session from his advancing reading from words to full sentences. We also went in depth on the grammatical aspects of Spanish verbs, endings, and usage. Because he knows Spanish already, I think the only things we need to work on are vocabulary building, speaking, and reading skills."
"Today was a great day. The student and I went over basic Spanish phrases and she knew almost all of them. Then we learned reflexive verbs for self care and played a game with the boys where she would command them different things in Spanish (brush your teeth! take a shower! wake up!) and they had to mime them. I also taught her the present progressive tense (I am eating, you are talking), which is much more useful than present tense. She got the hang of it right away. Next week, we'll be learning body parts and playing Simon says. I'm bringing treats as an incentive."
"We covered the alphabet and the basic words in Spanish. Also, we had Spanish conversations using the manual and online examples. The student was struggling in the pronunciation of the letter 'c.' I used a manual I bought and we are starting off with the material from the workbook. I left him with extra practice and encouraged him to buy the book, so we can review it next time we meet. The student has great pronunciation and learns extremely fast. The session was really good and the student was really excited in learning."
"Yesterday the student and I worked on verb drills on present and preterit tenses. Her teacher let me know that she is having a difficult time with these and that she needs to improve in this area for the final. She was doing very well at the end of our session. She agreed to practice for 15-30 minutes per day until our next session."
