Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student 1 has a math midterm coming up so we continued our review of the topics we have covered and that he has seen in class. Last week, we worked on ratios so we started by reviewing these a bit and he is very comfortable working with them. We then did a quick review of the trig ratios - including 30-60-90 and 45-45-90 triangles. The review was quick because this is some of the more recent material and we have spent a good amount of time on it in the past so he was already very comfortable with it. I tried to up the difficulty and make him think about things in a different way and I think that helped solidify his understanding. Finally, we went back and started to go over some basic geometric proofs. This was the first topic I worked on with him so it took a good amount of review to get him back up to speed. It eventually clicked and we were able to run through a full congruency proof by the end of our 45 mins. Student 2 also has an exam coming up on all the things we've been working on. I think she now understands the relationships among fractions, decimals and percentages as she was able to redraw the diagram I gave to her last week. After reviewing these for a bit I asked her to get her most recent test so that we could go over her problem areas again. She still struggles a bit with unit ratios but I think her instincts are improving. By the end of the session she was able to do a couple of problems without my help, which is a good sign. I think this should be her focus before the upcoming exam."
"The student worked on math assignments today. He constructed a regular pentagon using his protractor. He then computed the interior angles of some regular polygons. I also reviewed the prefix terms for types of polygons with him and gave him a study guide."
"This was my first session with the student. We went over and reviewed what she has been going over in class the past couple weeks. We covered adding/subtracting and multiplication/division of fractions and mixed numbers. She is incredibly bright and picks things up really quickly. She has a test coming up that will cover all these topics and I am confident she is going to do really well."
"The student solved equations by isolating the unknown. She was able to demonstrate a better understanding for multiplication equation and isolation of the unknown. She was a pleasure to work with."
"We covered several subjects in preparation for her exam tomorrow. Sequences, radical equations, adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing/composing multiple functions, trigonometry (Law of Sines, Soh Cah Toa, exponential to radical format, radical equations and inequalities."
"Today the student and I completed her homework on plotting points on a graph to create an image. I also taught the student the relationship between independent and dependent variables, the different types of graphs and what data is used to interpret them, mean/median/mode/range, and how to convert decimals to fractions to percentages and the number place system."
