Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered the reading comp section and the essay. The student struggled primarily with vocabulary and context for the reading comp section. The student was very interested in learning how to write a good essay. We looked at essay examples and discussed why they received the scores that they did. For next time, the student will respond to at least two writing prompts as well as complete a 40-minute reading comp. practice session and two 20-minute writing practice sessions in addition to vocab and reading."
"We reviewed a selection of math questions from a sample exam today. This included scrambled paragraphs, logic, codes, and paragraph comprehension as well as a diverse group of algebra, prealgebra, geometry and word problems. I left the student with several original math word problems to practice with for homework."
"Today we began by continuing to practice grammar concepts such as lay, laid, and lain. The student's SAT guide also had key information about grammar and idiomatic expressions often seen on the test, so we also reviewed their suggestions and strategies. Next, we reviewed the essay she wrote for practice. She does very well with stating her claims clearly with clear and effective word choice. We talked about elaborating on her ideas with specific details and eliminating passive voice. To conclude our session, we reviewed strategies for completing the essay from her test guide. For homework, she will complete 2 complete exams, study her new vocabulary words, and brush up on essay topics for the SAT."
