Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was ready to go with a rough draft of his Religion essay. We copy-edited it together and crafted a suitable conclusion. In addition, he planned out his assignments for the coming week. All in all, straightforward, productive, and an efficient use of time."
"The student and I looked at the assigned writings I had her do, and we talked about the structure of her essays once more. She still has a bit of difficulty organizing her thoughts, but it is clear from our six weeks of tutoring that she has been producing better quality of thoughts. The essay was a persuasive one, and she has thrown in convincing arguments in an eloquent manner--her main issue is fleshing out those arguments and rearranging them. We also analyzed another person's essay for rhetorical devices, such as repetition, rhythm, metaphors, etc. She seemed to benefit greatly from this; in the beginning of our analysis she could not see the literary devices used in the essay, but toward the end she was making educated guesses."
"We went over a worksheet that the student had, detailing who all the characters were and choosing relevant lines to show what sort of person they were. He will finish it for homework and bring it to our next session for review."
"We worked on turning notes into a cohesive paper. She had an assignment to write about a multi-cultural event that she attended and she used a week long missions event at her church. She was able to talk about the things she saw and experienced and then to discuss how those things fit with what they have been learning about in class. We also kept up our To Do list so we don't let anything drop during these busy days wrapping up the semester."
"The student worked on writing his current event for the majority of this session. He was able to complete the large part of this assignment: the article summary. He initiated the editing process after he was done writing, which until today is something that I have had to suggest every other time. We finished our session with a few pages from "Boys in the Boat.""
"During this session, the student worked on his homework assignments from school. He completed his current event assignment, which involved choosing an article from the newspaper and writing a paragraph about the article, as well as his other assignments for the day."
