Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session we focused on reading comprehension, using the prep book the student just got this week. I timed him in a simulated SAT reading section (25 min) and we went over the questions he got wrong. He is very good at narrowing down to the best 2 answer choices; going forward we'll just be working to help him get to the one right answer. He will be continuing to study his vocab words, as that is really the only limiting part to improving his SAT Critical Reading score. He is very bright and forthright and that is something that makes working with him very easy-- his focus seems to be improving as well."
"The student is doing very well with geometry, which she says is her weak area. She really understands angles and triangles. We began with triangles and moved on to quadrilaterals. Then we did some data analysis. Next we did some writing practice, going over sentence completion and fix the sentence. Lastly we did some passage reading to finish. I gave her a practice passage test to do and practice grid in questions to do from her workbook. She seems to be doing very well."
"The student and I talked about the English diagnostic test that she had taken. She did not think it had gone as well as she had hoped, so we talked about what went well and what didn't. We also talked about specific questions she had about the material in that test. Next, we went through the English topics section by section and did practice questions. We covered these topics this week: appositive and interrupting phrase errors, conjunction errors, modifier errors, and other sentence errors. I introduced and explained the topic, and then she worked through questions out loud using our strategies such as process of elimination and rephrasing. Next time, we plan to continue working on the English section topics. I have also assigned another diagnostic test for her to do before our next meeting to monitor her progress."
