Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went through one of the previous tests from the class to study. I had received the tests, and was able to prepare for most of the questions. The tutoring session went great, as the student is getting the concepts that we are going over. The best part is that the student is asking questions. Nothing speaks more to learning than asking questions, and I think he is getting more and more of the organic chemistry intuition. We are planning to meet again in two days to go over the rest of the test."
"The student was quite interested in science today. He has a test tomorrow about rocks. We enjoyed talking about rocks, and I think he picked up more of the important ideas. We spend the last 15 minutes on reading and writing."
"The student and I met today to go over ketone and aldehydes. We mainly covered mechanisms and concepts today. She has a problem set and practice exam that will prepare her for the final exam in a week. We plan on meeting once again next week before her final exam."
"We worked on photosynthesis and cellular respiration. From general chemical equations to specific enzymes and products involved, we had a detailed session. The student asked insightful questions pertinent to the topics."
"During this session we focused on building a study plan for the upcoming final. We went through my resource book to identify topics he had covered, and ranked each depending on how well he remembered the concept or how confident he felt recalling the information. I advised him to create a study plan and present it to me in his upcoming session. After this, we focused on an area that I had noticed he needed more review: drawing Lewis structures. With the simple problems he had no trouble, but with the more complicated problems he quickly lost his strategy and overlooked either valence or octet considerations. I gave him tips for maintaining a logical strategy for the more complex problems, and left him with more practice to complete for our next session. We will continue to work on this."
"We covered skeletal structures and balancing of four different types of chemical equations. We also briefly covered the student's algebra quizzes for her algebra test. She has a good understanding of both subjects, and I think she will do well on her chemistry quiz and her algebra test!"
