Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For our last session before her big exam, we went over transcription of translation. The student learned how DNA is transcribed into RNA and how RNA is translated into proteins. The student did a great job concentrating and showed great dedication learning the materials."
"During this session we focused on reviewing ideal gas law calculations. The student seemed confident with the calculations, and only occasionally made minor mistakes such as forgetting to convert her units. She seemed a bit more hesitant when applying dimensional analysis to transition between mass, moles, and molar mass, but with more calculations she gained confidence and will continue to do so with extra practice. After that, we reviewed effusion calculations. The student seemed confident with the math on this topic also, but was sometimes confused about how to determine which equation to use. We spent some time walking through the transition between each equation, and she understood at the end that they were all variations on the same equation. After this, she seemed much more confident with calculation manipulations."
"The student has a test on titration soon, so we ran through a practice test and quiz given by his teacher and solved the problems within. The student had made good progress but is weak on the concepts behind titrations and understanding the definitions behind a few of the terms and how to apply them to the problems. The student also struggled a bit with the conjugate acid-base pairs. For the test, he will need to memorize the results of the indicator tests and properly set up the equivalence equations for the titration problems. We continued to prepare by doing problems from the student's teacher. He continues to have some problems with stoichiometry and balancing equations so I made sure to emphasize those aspects and made him practice. We also discussed neutralization problems and titration problems and worked on those. We will continue to work on this next session."
"Today, we continued with the student's review of her material before her test tomorrow. We went over two main PowerPoints that we had not covered prior to today, including one on physiology and one PowerPoint on the structure and function of the digestive system. In the short time left, we quickly covered again her PowerPoint on Mendelian genetics."
"The student and I spent time reviewing the previous unit's graded assignment. We covered electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic engines/ conversion of mechanical and electrical energy, and spent time discussing Ampere's law."
"The student was working on a final project and needed assistance. We covered assumptions of normality of continuous data, scatterplots, regression, regression equations, test statistics, residuals, hypothesis statements, and how all these statistics added up to a final conclusion about the question in the exercise about patients with diabetes."
