"Today we went of the second fundamental theorem of calculus. We also went over left and right hand Riemann sums, and the midpoint rule. We then looked at applying the first fundamental theorem of calculus and also the mean value theorem for integrals."
"Today, we talked through the student's notes for the semester thus far. He is working on graphing functions based upon information gathered from derivatives (i.e. increasing/decreasing; concavity; points of inflection, etc.). I had the student walk me through examples for each topic. He seems to have a good understanding of the material and is organizing his notes in a way that seems to help him much more with studying. He has a test next week, so I recommended he do all of the homework assignment and also do additional problems from his text book to get lots of practice. We will have another session before his test, so that will allow him to go over an details he is still having trouble with."
"The student's class has begun approximating definite integrals by the left, right, and midpoint rectangular rules, and evaluating integrals by definition. She was left confused by her teacher's explanations, so I re-taught her the procedures, and she seemed to understand them much better by the time we did some practice."
"Oh boy! Integrals! The student has a test coming up soon so we reviewed integrals. She likes the way I presented it. I also made sure she understood the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus."
"We continued with our calculus preparation. As always we started our session with revision of what we covered last class. I gave the student some problems to practice and he got them all correct. After that, we moved on to learning chain rule to find derivative, and finally ended our session with finding derivatives of trig functions."
"We practiced ACT Science. The student did well, but stumbled a bit on questions about experimental design. We'll continue to work on that. He continues to be very receptive to help and is a pleasure to work with. We also worked on some difficult Calculus questions. Next week we'll go back to ACT Math."
