"We went over her acid base neutralization worksheet. She had trouble in the beginning understanding the idea of the net ionic reaction, and how to deal with elements that remain in solution, but once she was able to understand that, she was able to breeze through most of the math and solving questions."
"This session focused on severe weather storms of tornadoes/super storms and hurricanes. I demonstrated the current theories on how these storms form. I showed her a few videos on the history of these storms and a wind demonstration of a category 5 hurricane. We then finished by starting the next section on ecological interactions specifically predator-prey, commensalism, mutualism and parasites."
"In this session with the student, I helped her with genetic sessions from her science class. We went over from the definition of DNA to genetic mutations. She understood reading and writing DNA sequence, mRNA sequence and amino acid sequences correctly as well as identifying different genetic mutations correctly. Our session was productive and went well."
"The student and I reviewed 21 concepts and terms related to global environmental processes. The terms were on the following 4 subject areas: biology, evolutionary biology, biodiversity dynamics, and climate change. We spent about 4-5 minutes on each of the concepts and terms. We also went over the next step in her large research project due at the end of her term."
"In this session, we discussed mitosis and meiosis. This included the different phases of the processes such as prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase. It also included what happens in each of these phases. We then went over some practice questions. She had a good understanding of the material and seemed much more confident about the topic after the session."
"We continued to review tectonic plate theory. The student took notes on magnetism, including earth's magnetic poles vs geographic poles, and use of magnetic dating as evidence of tectonic plate movement throughout the history of the planet."
"We continued equilibrium and went on to acids and bases and all the equations related to Ka, Kb, pH, pOH and so on. We also went over her online assignments and did problems from there to reinforce the concepts."
"The student and I had a review session on electrical circuits. We used Ohm's Law, Kirchhoff's rules, and power to answer about 30 questions. She was solving many of the problems once I gave a simple explanation. She did an excellent job!"
"We discussed today about transition metals and their coordination compounds. We talked about how to write electron configuration of transition metals and their ions. We discussed the order of filling of orbitals s, p, d, and f; and solved a number problems about electronic configuration of transition metals and their ions. We also discussed how to name transition metal complexes and how to write their formulae. We finally talked about isomerism in transition metal complexes. We discussed the different types of isomerism in transition metal compounds: coordination, linkage, geometric, and optical isomers."
"We reviewed glycogenesis and glycogenolysis. The student seems to be struggling with the big picture concepts. She has a positive attitude and is motivated to learn. She came prepared with questions, which was really helpful in making the session productive. She plans to review on her own again before Thursday."
"The student read aloud from his science book to complete part of a study guide for Chapter 1: Section 1-Speed, Velocity, and Acceleration. He defined terms, wrote formulas, and found examples during his reading. He will complete the remainder of the study guide by its due date."
"Today we reviewed for the student's exam on book 6. Began book 7 including balancing equations, moles, solutions and concentrations. Encouraged him to complete as much work as he can on his own until I see him Thursday."
