Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over practice tests that he did in English and science. He improved significantly on both areas, especially English. We went over topics that seemed to still be confusing in those areas. I am concerned with his abilities in the reading section. He certainly understands why he has answered questions incorrectly when we retroactively go over them. He is going to need to practice this section a lot, and I am going to try a few different approaches next week."
"Today we reviewed an entire Reading section and covered two Science passages. The Reading was reviewed out of sequence, focusing first on the passages that the student traditionally does better with, and focusing on his weakest passage type last. The student completed two diagnostics, one in Reading and the other in Science. While those scores were not as good as what the student has done in the past, he only missed 4 questions in Reading and 2 in Science during our practice. These scores draw a raw score of roughly 34-35 for either section. This may be largely in part due to the student's ability to retain the information when he is actively marking up the passages with a pencil or highlighter. I will be providing the student with additional practice sets for both Math and Science."
"Today the student and I focused on the English and critical reading sections. He could use some practice with punctuation and prepositions. He is doing a great job improving his English skills, but could work on using evidence from the text to eliminate answers or justify choosing the answers he believes are correct. I will email the student some resources regarding what we worked on today."
