"We worked on the writing multiple-choice section this week. She had briefly gone through a section in our previous session and had not been able to identify rules for almost any questions. We talked through parallelism, dependent-independent clause matching, prepositional phrases, identifying subject-verb-object, and the difference between past and progressive tenses. We had covered almost all of these before, but today we did it much more systematically. I gave her practice questions related to each rule, and at the end we worked through a whole section. She was accurate much more often in this final section than she had been the first time she did a writing section for me."
"We spent the majority of the session going over grammar via writing multiple choice questions. He did quite well with this and got many of them right. Some of them were more difficult and I taught him the rules and also what typical errors to look for. We then moved on to reading comprehension and he did well at understanding the main idea of a passage despite difficult language. We looked at some fill in the blank and it seems like vocabulary could improve slightly on these. We are going to go over writing and geometry next time."
"We focused on critical reading in this session, going through the breadth of several practice sections. The student is certainly improving in selecting the most contextually-supported answer choices, and he will continue to do so as he practices on his own time. For the next week, I urged that he do an entire practice test on his own so he can score it and see where he currently sits. He should also continue to review vocabulary words."
