"We started by reading an article on types of health. We debated which type of health was most important. I then discussed the elements of a persuasive opinion essay. He developed a thesis and graphic organizer outline for a persuasive essay on why mental health was most important. He struggled a bit to find and include specific real word details and examples and we had to talk about it quite a bit before he was able to generate his own ideas. He then wrote the 5 paragraph essay, and I reviewed it with him. His details were often very general and vague, and he would write information without elaborating on it. We discussed how to expand on original ideas to support his thesis and strengthen his argument."
"Great session with the student. We reviewed literary elements and devices and practiced writing about the effects of literary elements in prose, with a focus on personification, metaphor and imagery. She also did an extended analysis of puns in Act II, scene IV of "Romeo and Juliet.""
"He put our principles to practice over the week and tackled his French as we had discussed. We worked on planning his assignments again. I want him to write it down, if only to get him to plan around his extra curricular activities and make his progress visible to me (and to his parents)."
