"
During my past three years in New York, I have worked as a tutor with an after school enrichment program in Harlem called Street Squash. Through this program, I led Regents test-prep sessions in Algebra and ELA for 30 8th grade students, worked individually with 6th-11th grade students on homework in all subject areas, and worked with a high school junior in preparation for his SAT. I really enjoyed working with students on crafting essay responses and targeting SAT prep techniques.."

"With other subjects, it is important to establish your own way of measuring improvement, which will keep motivation high. I have tutored elementary, middle, and high school students in the past, and my most successful students are always the ones who feel they are improving and are proud of their accomplishments. I want each of my students to feel proud of the work they have done, and to realize his or her full potential. There is no better feeling (in my opinion) than achieving something you once thought was impossible or improbable, and I feel a vicarious sense of satisfaction when my students have such experiences." ...

"I am proud to say that I just got a full time teaching job as an elementary ESL teacher! I was very grateful that the first teaching resume that I ever sent out (and many countless interviews after for this one job) landed me a job that quickly! I am fluent in Spanish and conversational in American Sign Language. One of my favorite tutoring moments happened about three years ago. I was tutoring a ninth grade girl in math. The first time that I spoke with her mom on the phone, she was crying and said that her daughter had a fifty average and that I was her only hope." ...

" I also believe that each student is different, and their tutoring should be tailored to their strengths and weaknesses. That is why I approach each student individually and attempt to match the sessions to what will be most helpful for each student. I am a positive person and will always approach a student with a positive outlook, even when they are having difficulty, because confidence is one key element in academic success. " I've taught for Kaplan Test Prep (no relation, though my name is Kaplan) and I've designed my own prep courses that draw from a wide variety of methods and teaching styles.
Whether tutoring for a specific test, or teaching a subject more generally, I work with students to find a method of preparation and learning that works for them.
Besides tutoring and education, I'm interested in music, hiking--both interests that I pursued in Brazil, where I lived for three years.
I look forward to hearing from you!."

"Sharing my love of reading and writing is a great thrill of mine and I feel honored to get such an opportunity to do so. In terms of academia, my dual degree lent me the chance to hone my communications skills (I now work full time at a television production company focusing on documentary-style TV) as well as my skills in English. As a result, I became well-educated in both classic literature as well as contemporary literary theory focusing on a variety of topics such as gender, media, class and social structure, and an assortment of other theories and topics (all of which I'd love to chat about if given the opportunity). In my downtime, I love ...
