Jenny I am an educator who loves to help students reach their goals. I have taught for many years, and always enjoy the challenge of working with a student who is struggling with the content they've been assigned. My goal as a tutor is to help students succeed while challenging them to use their critical thinking skills, regardless of the subject.

Craig ...of interest in this tutoring position are in reading and general mathematics for elementary and middle grade students. My approach is to begin by assessing needs of the student. Sometimes this is done informally and other times it is more of a formal, written process. Once we understand needs, then we can make a plan for moving forward. Outside of education, I play guitar and steel guitar and restore old pinball and arcade games.... My teaching philosophy is primarily constructivist. I think the student needs to be at the center of the learning process. Children learn best when they construct personal understanding based on experience and reflection.

I describe myself as a life-long learner, as I try to learn something new every single day. Learning can improve your life in so many ways. My favorite part of teaching is when a student who has struggled to grasp a concept finally has the “AHA!” moment. In that moment, he or she feels the...

Emily ...in me. My goal working in education is to make that change in a student’s educational journey by believing in them. I have recently begun hiking the Ice Age Trail which totals over 100 miles. It may take a while to complete, but the outdoor activity is amazing year-round. I am completing my second Bachelor’s Degree as well. When I have any spare time I find myself reading and spending time with my family.
Samantha ...more understandable and exciting to others. Additionally, I have helped teach a microbiology lab course at UW-Madison. Having the opportunity to teach others about the things I have a passion for fills me with so much excitement. I offer tutoring both in person and online in math, the biological sciences, and SAT/ACT test prep. I can also assist students who need help learning to write scientific papers and lab reports for class.... Get to know them as an individual, what they like about their classes, what they don't like about them. Then we can discuss what subjects they're having difficulty with, or if there's anything in particular they'd like to reinforce.

I tutor so that students will understand why and how a concept functions, and then be able to organize it and analyze its different parts. My strongpoints as a tutor are in writing, but I also have a strong math background and love teaching all forms of math up to the high school level. Olivia ...It's a wonderful job because it makes me a permanent student of the world, but I miss interacting with young students. I love teaching because I love learning, and I want to help other people find that same love of learning that I had growing up, because that guides me through life. I especially enjoy teaching writing and math. I'm sure this is heavily influenced by the fact that I learned those skills from two...
Adam ...underprivileged kids; in college, I volunteered in the math and writing centers; now, I'm teach ethics and logic classes in the philosophy department at UW-Madison. Teaching is the most important part of my life, and my role as an educator is what most defines my identity. I have no general guiding principle about teaching, other than that it isn't really useful to think in terms of such principles. Rather, I think that it's best to...
