Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today during our session, the student and I went over new material she has learned since last week- which was finding the surface areas and volumes of 3-dimensional shapes. She is really quick to memorize the equations that are necessary. She also updated me on the results of her test last week, and she got a 100%! I'm really proud of her and I truly do enjoy working with her."
"We covered factoring and more distribution methods. She seems to struggle with signs and simple rules within each concept. Her attitude is still strong. I told her to study all that we went over for her test tomorrow."
"Our main focus was on the definitions of relations and functions. We overviewed the basic definitions and then discussed a number of examples. After most examples, I would have the student create an example for me to show his understanding. The student is very bright, but I had to remind him to slow down and read everything. After a while, I had him read through all of a word problem. I would then take the book away from him and have him discuss the situation just to practice really processing the given information. He reported that he got a 90+ on a recent quiz. He is quickly learning how to work without a calculator, and is showing progress when it comes to reading directions."
"Today was my first session with the student. She is an enthusiastic and bright girl who picks up new concepts quickly. We are working on math in preparation for the high school placement test. The concepts we covered today were ratios, number line, geometry (Pythagorean theorem), fractions, basic algebra, and word problems. I was most impressed by her ability to understand and then apply an algebraic equation used to add consecutive integers that I taught her. We decided to focus on word problems and ratios next time, as she is most concerned about word problems. We agreed that she would bring her math materials next time we meet and we would use those in addition to online resources."
"This was a good session with the student. We did a nice review of how we manipulate imaginary numbers and how they relate to problems in the set of all real numbers. He is doing well."
"This is the first session. I discussed with the student the concepts of percentages, fractions and decimals. I gave him practice problems on how to convert percentages to fractions, fractions to decimals and vice versa."
