Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today I gave an overview of the student's exam and we discussed goals. Her target score is a 1700 and her optimal score is an 1800+. we went over strategies for answering vocabulary sections and reading comprehension questions. I then assigned her an essay for homework."
"During this session, we reviewed his previous practice section troubles. His primary challenges had involved misplaced modifiers and vocabulary, in addition to general difficulty in the reading section. Thus, I thought the most productive activity we could have during this session was to have a reading section clinic. As part of this clinic, we went through some of his earlier stumbling points, went over reading strategy, how to read "small" versus "big," etc. We then went over essay writing strategy. This is important because he will be taking a full practice exam this weekend. I gave him handouts that summarized these strategies. I assigned him two practice sections in addition to the full diagnostic exam. I'm looking forward to seeing his results."
"Today the student and I worked on difficult grammar questions for the SAT writing section including: dependent clauses, semicolons, colons, commas, conjunctions, direct and indirect objects, pronouns, and idioms. He completed a 25 minute timed section in Practice Test 2. His homework is to correct the 9 questions he missed, write a timed essay, complete a second grammar section, and work on a critical reading section if he has time. We drilled a lot of difficult questions today, but I don't want him to get discouraged - we're working on the harder level grammar because he's doing well with the intermediate level questions already!"
