"The student had completed some practice exams, and we talked through the problems he missed while identifying what graphic organizers could be helpful as he continues to study for his exam."
"Worked with the student on some practice problems, worked on creating linear equations from points and slopes."
"Today, we got to focus entirely on math topic 9, the goal being that the student can take her make-up test for that topic tomorrow. This topic centers around multiples and factors. We started by reproducing a prime factor sieve. She caught on pretty quickly to the concept behind the exercise, and hopefully it helps her memorize the first ten or so prime numbers. There was one concept problem that stumped her, but when we went back to it at the end of the session, she was able to answer it -- after practicing factor problems for a while. Next, we did factor trees and she wrote prime factorizations of various factors in two different notational forms. She caught on very quickly to this, after I demonstrated an example problem for her. I reminded her a few times to format her factor trees correctly and completely, and once she got into the habit of doing that, it stuck. Her mental math is getting better. We also looked at word problems, involving the use of factors in simple geometry situations, and she was good at that right away. This topic was definitely easier for her than some of the other topics, for instance the topic on surface area (although she has good comprehension of surface area now, too). We covered topic 9 thoroughly, and I think now she has had the practice necessary to enter into the test confidently."
"We started the session with a perfect squares worksheet. We reviewed exponents through a worksheet and a website. I introduced exponent problems where the base is a fraction or decimal. We will do more work on decimal bases. We then continued with order of operations using a worksheet and a website. We will continue reviewing this working towards more complicated problems. Finally, I introduced how to evaluate algebraic expressions. The student did a great job."
"We completed reviewing the student's practice exam in quality assurance and statistical process control. We discussed which control charts to use to address various problems, we tested for the association between treatments using a chi-square test, and we worked through a problem in estimating sample sizes given a margin of error and specified confidence level. The student satisfactorily completed the work, and demonstrated a better understanding of the material."
"The student and I worked through his algebra II honors test corrections. We looked at graphing inequalities, interval ranges, functions within a function, and transforming equations based on a graph. We had a productive session and we talked about different ways to solve these problems, and filled in the gaps for where he had problems on the test, and talked about some strategies to be more prepared for the next test. His notes were not completely filled in so we talked about making sure at least two days before the test that notes get completed and if they are not, to go see his teacher or call a friend to get them so that he will be able to study everything before the test."
