Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We prepared for the student's final exam during this session. She had gone through the review packets provided to her and circled the problems that she needed further help on. We worked through each circled problem with success, and she was able to understand. We got through a lot in this session, and she seems well-prepared for her final. We will resume tutoring after winter break."
"The student had homework on a section consisting of dot products and vector projections. After looking over the problems, we were able to interpret the steps on how to solve them and complete them. As always, he seems to grasp the work pretty well. The student has a test coming up and plans on having another session to prepare for it. As of now, there are no other concerns from this session."
"I showed the student how to solve exponential and logarithmic functions. Whenever the variable was in the exponent, I showed her how to use the logarithm to remove it and subsequently solve the equation. Conversely, I emphasized that e was the inverse of ln and 10 was the inverse of log and how the cancellation allowed the equation to be solved."
"In this session we worked on graphing. Together we went through each step in graphing and I asked her to write out the order to solve each problem so she can start doing them on her own."
"The student has started his second semester of pre-calculus. First, it is important to note that he scored an 87 on his pre-calculus final last semester, so that's great news! He definitely has the potential to do well in this class, he just needs to be familiar with all the different ways that they can test him on a specific topic. This semester starts off with the sum and difference properties of trig functions. We went through practice samples of these involving cosine, sine, and tangent. We also practiced reconstructing the unit circle with all the radians and x,y values so that he could more easily solve the equations he set up. We also briefly talked about the trig identities. We went over the Pythagorean Identity and derived several different relationships using that as a base. He seemed to get what we were doing during our session. Let's hope he's able to keep it up throughout the semester."
"The student and I worked on a midterm review sheet. We covered imaginary numbers, domain and range, quadratics, synthetic division, and even and odd fxns. The student understands the concepts relatively well and is focusing on eliminating adding errors. We will continue with this exam next time."
