"Student A was the first today. We started with the "five chess" game where I instructed in Chinese, and he had to identify "black" and "white," "I" and "you," and "win" and "lose." He liked playing the game. Then we used his toys to review other words we have learned in the past, for example: car, fly, leg, tongue, rain, "open the door" and "close the door." Some of the words he has forgotten how to say but I think with the second round he'll remember it much better. Student S was very good today; she behaved very well and was very attentive. We started with the "animal book," practicing saying the animals as well as trying to identify those words in sentences. Then I read a Chinese story book for her which kept her interest. Each sentence I first read in Chinese, then in English. She asked a lot of questions and enjoyed the reading and listening process. At the end, I used a cartoon drawing to teach her a new word: princess."
"Today we went over the student's homework, which was using question words and ser and estar. I then had her do some extra worksheets that I brought on ser and estar."
"This session was very exciting, as we finally finished the Spanish alphabet. The student has all of the letters and accompanying words we have learned so far completely memorized. She can recognize the letters and identify them in Spanish. In this session, we also reviewed basic phrases and words, using a language app and book. Finally, we role played situations for her to use the phrases we have learned so far."
"The student received a big assignment for the end of this week today. He has an oral exam with his teacher on Friday. His assignment is on a Chinese city, so the majority of the time we spent doing research for the project. We also answered some of the questions that the teacher is planning on asking him during the oral. We finished the research portion and got a little over halfway through the questions. I also looked at his final exam study guide in preparation for next week."
"I used Chinese almost all the time. Since the student was on winter vacation and there was no homework, we watched two short video clips together. One was about some Chinese food and the other was about pandas."
"We practiced conversations for a restaurant. Along with the practice, I included a lot more vocabulary words and phrases to use when you are at Japanese restaurant. During the session, many customs and cultures were also introduced for more practical use."
