Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We focused on the past tenses, imparfait and passe compose. We backtracked and talked about what the tenses really mean. I gave him an example of someone sleeping and suddenly someone knocks at the door. Imparfait interrupted by the passe compose. I then had him come up with his own example so I could know he really understood. We worked on some paragraphs which required changing the tenses as applicable - one that he had already done in class and with which I went over the explanations of the teacher's corrections, and one that we did from scratch together. Lastly we worked on a dictation. This means he had to write/ spell what I was reading aloud, and we went over what he wrote sentence by sentence. I talked with him about knowing what he was writing - the content - not just writing exactly what he heard."
"I worked with the student on Sunday. The activities that we did were based on what he is learning at school. First, we reviewed how to form the comparative and the superlative in French. Also, we did a review of the present tense. Finally, we completed the session with a French conversation about food habits."
"The student and I had our first session today, and I helped him assess and complete the upcoming homework and tasks for his French course. We worked on answering a worksheet about political cartoons in French, and I helped him to create the political cartoon he needed for class before assisting him with his MyFrenchLab homework. He does really well with the listening activities in French, and I hope to help him utilize this skill to assist in other areas in French."
"We covered the use of future, conditional and imperfect tenses. I corrected the assignments that the student did and explained some of the uses of certain verbs and agreements. She is doing well and understands the corrections well."
"We spent about 45 minutes reviewing the difference between and use of the pronouns Y and EN, which notes were sent to the client and his mother, and spent the remainder of the session working on the script for the project which he has to videotape and submit."
"We discussed the student's vocabulary. I'm going to focus a lot on her using her own logic to figure out vocabulary this time around. She needs to learn to create her own mnemonic devices for remembering words. We briefly discussed imparfait, which sat pretty well with her. We'll see how she does when we put it in action. I'd like to start focusing on listening for her too. I think that's where she struggles the most, and she will benefit strongly from it. I gave her some videos to watch in her free time that I hope will help."
