Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student took another complete ACT test. He was almost perfect on English and Reading, and he had a perfect score on Science. We spent the day going over different math topics in a college algebra book. We also took his Pre-Algebra homework packet and reviewed problems in there, because he is currently working on Trigonometry and that is his weakest ACT Math topic."
"The student and I discussed the different types of ACT reading passage, and we looked through several passages on each. She will complete the ACT reading diagnostic test before next time, and we will concentrate on types of questions."
"We looked at the student's ACT results, and talked about practicing Math problems on her own. I recommended putting in a little time every day to keep the math concepts fresh in her mind, and to find concepts that she has trouble with, so she can bring them up during the tutoring sessions. Also, we built on the strategies already in place for the Reading section, and added a few more. In particular, we practiced identifying question types, and talked about the exact approach in solving each type. We spent a good deal of time applying the TSP (topic, scope, purpose) that she identified while reading to the questions and the answers. We also practiced predicting the answer before looking at the answers. Our focus, from this point, in the reading section will be Prose fiction and Humanities passages, based on ACT performance."
