Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We devoted this session to a volume review of grammar. The student has responded very well to the initial lesson and consistently demonstrated relevant understanding. Our goal today was to make sure nothing specific was still troublesome or missing after the long break. We made some slight adjustments during the exercises and the student took good, constructive notes, followed by excellent performance in guided practice, and a projected score of 34-35 on the timed diagnostic. With our section goals complete, we tabled English for further review just prior to test day. We moved on to survey Math, which accelerated quickly as the student demonstrated a very strong understanding of the material. We should be able to finish this section and get a diagnostic result within the next session. Very productive meeting - will resume 2/22."
"The pupil and I reviewed a practice exam he had completed for homework. He did quite well on critical reading, is making positive progress on math, and needs to work on writing skills multiple choice. We spent the second half of our session reviewing grammar rules and strategies, which he has a good grasp on. I get the sense that he sometimes likes to choose the more complicated answers, and I will address this in our next session. He is making great progress."
"In this session, we spent about half of our time going over a practice math section that I had assigned the student ahead of time. He spent the rest of the time doing a practice writing section, and concluded by talking about the essay briefly. We specifically went over functions, questions that asked for answers in terms of variables, and the Pythagorean theorem as applied to special right triangles. He worked his way through them and he seemed to understand them much better by the end. He continues to have a very solid grasp of the writing. I will be assigning him some more practice sections to do ahead of our next session. In particular, I am curious to see how he does with a practice essay (which I will read over and comment on by next Tuesday). I look forward to forging ahead with this very genial and focused student!"
