Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over all kinds of subjects today. For the first half-hour or so, we went over the various vocabulary for probability and combinatorics (the differences between "and", "or", and "given"). Once I told them what they meant, and what the differences were, he was able to blaze through the examples I gave him, so we then turned our attention for the rest of the session on proofs, more specifically two-column proofs. Like most clients, two-column proofs were initially challenging for him, but he very quickly grasped the concept, and did pretty much the entirety of the last proof on his own. In the future, I recommend he draw bigger columns so he can more easily read what he already wrote. In general, though, excellent job today!"
"During this session we primarily focused on going over the student's most recent exam. He got a 97%. I feel he is developing very good testing skills in just the few meetings we have had so far. A recurring statement made by him and his father is that the teacher does not explain everything in complete detail, and I believe this was affecting his performance on his final test. I feel that in the limited time that he and I have been working together he is a fantastic driven student. I feel I have been effective in the capacity of filling in the missing details for him, and he has shown that he understands and retains the concepts in the 4 meeting so far. We finished the rest of the session on reviewing what he has learned as far as parallelograms, squares, rectangles, kites, rhombuses, etc., and he shown me that he understands the material so far. He is a great student and it has been a pleasure working with him so far."
"The student worked on his homework, and we covered a review sheet for his Wednesday quiz. He was having some trouble with factoring polynomials, especially on the front of perfect squares and word problems. We took plenty of time to go over it, and I could tell though he felt more comfortable. We'll work on it further in our next session."
"Today's was the student's 2nd session and I have to say that I am impressed with her work ethic. She reviewed the material from our first session extensively and has already developed a good understanding of integrals. We then focused on the 2nd part of her hw which involves joint probability distributor mean and variance. So far we've worked on identifying the correct intervals and she has done a good job doing that."
"The student and I finished reviewing the "random variables" section, and we will be going onto the assignments for conditional probability, among other topics. He is doing well with the course concepts and is making great progress in the class."
"We worked on using the difference between two means as a random variable. This mostly consisted of learning how to calculate standard deviation in these situations. The student didn't have much trouble learning how to run a z-score test or construct a confidence interval in these instances."
