"As mentioned previously, The student and I have a ways to go with math. I feel like he's starting to get a little stronger. With respect to reading comprehension, I couldn't be happier with his progress. He used to miss roughly 20-25% of the questions, without much of a clue as to why he was missing certain questions. But today, I was blown away. He missed 1 question out of 10 I think. Moreover, when he misses a question, he is at least able to whittle away the choices down to the two best, and he seems to understand his mistake in most cases."
"We have a cool new book about aliens now, which actually seemed to hold the student's interest pretty well, but after about half an hour we switched over to reading some more Jack Prelutsky poems. I'll have to find some more of his stuff, or maybe some Shel Silverstein, at the library for next time- I think having a work/reward system where the work is reading and the reward is also reading, just reading poems instead, seems like a good plan."
"In our time together we first worked on digesting and breaking down the prompt, discussing the overall goals of the paper, and then outlining. We went through his class notes and some online sources to start the framework of the first half of the essay, and talked about the point that each paragraph would be trying to make. After he completed a rough draft of the first half, we went through and talked about what kind of information he needed to research and add, and how what he did have written needed to be linked back to the original goal of the paper. Before our next meeting he is going to talk to the professor regarding some questions we generated, and try to edit his second two points in the same way that together we worked on his first one."
"The student is taking the SAT this Wednesday. We spent the session going over a few more test taking tips, and she completed 3 sections that we subsequently went over. Her score is strong. She definitely has the potential to score a 2000+."
"We worked on stoichiometry, balancing equations, and limiting reagent problems (which the student is going to work on more). His Math final and Chem quiz are this week, and his Chem and Bio final are next week, so we're planning on meeting again to review for the other subjects."
"We practiced casual conversation today. The topics we covered included travelling to different places in the world, foods, high-speed rail, sports, and college. The student has visited many places, and he intends to major in business and minor in Chinese when he attends college."
