Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I spent time reviewing a quiz that she did poorly on, and went over some material that she felt the teacher did not cover as thoroughly as she had hoped. By the end of our session, she had made excellent progress and felt confident that she could do well on a quiz that covered the same material. She may want a bit of extra help during the week and will contact me if that is the case."
"The student has started a new chapter since our last meeting. To help him prepare for a quiz, we reviewed ratios and proportions. He understood the material well after going through it!"
"Today we continued preparing for the SAT by finishing a practice test from our previous session. The topics we covered were: factorization, word problems involving binomials, matrices, finding maximum height, velocity as relates to quadratic functions and calculating standard deviation using a graphing calculator."
"During this session, the student and I reviewed his integral material for his final. We reviewed integration by parts, integration by substitution, and trigonometric functions, Simpsons method, and the shell method."
"The student and I reviewed for final exams in Calculus AB and high school Physics. We reviewed and completed example problems in topics that include: substitution as a technique for integration, applications of derivatives, inverse functions, vectors, free-fall and projectile motion and work/energy."
"The student is learning primarily about various ways to graph different parts of a function, particularly relative maximums and minimums. She is sharp and eager to learn! I covered the idea of the first derivative test pretty much from square one, and we did a number of problems. By the end, she was able to manage some pretty tricky problems without much help. I'd say her arithmetic and differentiation is at like 75%, while her knowledge of the first derivative test in particular is more like 95%! After that, we spent a bit on limits, particularly L'Hopital's rule. It's a weird concept, but once she managed to do one problem, the rest came pretty easily to her, though again, her number crunching needs some brushing up/more practice. She has a quiz tomorrow specifically over the first derivative stuff, and I'm definitely expecting an A at best and a B at least. We've set a twice-a-week schedule."
