Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We talked primarily about inverse functions, absolute value functions, inequalities, and polynomial factoring, walking through the review guide, and working any problems that he didn't understand. Most of them had to do with altered functions or absolute value equations."
"During the session, I gave the student some practice problems in hopes that we may be able to diagnose where his problems lie when it comes to exponential and logarithmic functions. He experienced very little trouble. This is contrary to what we would expect based on the scores he received on his earlier exams; in fact, he was able to quickly and accurately solve most of the problems he had been given. The only problems he experiences on a recurring basis are clerical issues involving signs more displaced operations. He also often forgets to redefine the domain of the function, which I have reminded him to do. I believe the best way for the student to prepare for his final will be through repeated practice, and it may be good for him to have someone who sits down next to him and helps them go through the things that he's missing."
"The student has her pre-calculus final tomorrow. She wanted help completing her review packet. We focused on solving for trig functions in regard to the terminal side/angle. She had a few trig identities she wanted to go over with me, so we looked at the Pythagorean theorem along with its derivations. We also went over the sum/difference and product properties of trig functions. Overall, she did very well."
"The student and I worked problems involving circles and ellipses, and converting them to sine and cosine form. She did well on finding the sine and cosine equations, but needed a bit of help finding the standard form equation when given information about the circle/ ellipse. We went over some strategies to simplify the process, and how to reduce the likelihood of making an algebraic mistake while calculating values. Some of these calculations are the same as what we've covered in previous weeks, and her speed and accuracy in completing these problems indicates that she's building off of previous material."
"We went through exponential growth as well as how to find exponential functions based on 2 or more points. The student picked up the material very quickly and the session went well. I left him with some resources to use if he gets stuck doing the rest of his homework, which I believe he will be able to do well on his own now."
"During this session, we went over logarithms, including solving logarithmic equations, simplifying logarithmic expressions, etc. The student was confident with all the topics. She kept a positive attitude and was eager to solve the practice problems. During this session, I used the problems from the online database for extra practice. She said she has a test coming up and felt well-prepared for it."
