Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed the student's homework, which covered the relationship between the circular motion equations, angular velocity, and angular acceleration and the equation for gravitational forces. She derived an expression for the radius given the gravitational constant and the period of a satellite. She also used the gravitational force equation to calculate the mass of a satellite and the body it orbits given the period and distance between the bodies."
"We reviewed about ten problems on the student's class worksheet, which covered energy (kinetic/potential) and work (its definition and its relationship with energy). The student understands the concepts and necessary equations but had a little trouble applying the knowledge. I set up a process that involved mining the question for the pertinent information and applying it in a methodical manner to work towards the end goal. Next time, I will bring a sheet of equations along so the student can look at them while working the problems to build familiarity. Good session."
"The student and I covered a couple vector and motion problems from chapter 3 to help him prep for his Monday exam. I focused on interpreting the problems correctly, ensuring we know what is being asked for, writing down the appropriate equations, seeing what variables we know and what we don't, and solving for the unknown. I encourage him to be calm, systematically go through each problem, be patient, draw a picture, and be clear on what is being asked of him and focus on solving that."
