Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I completed two tests from previous years. He is to complete the two remaining sections before our next meeting. He did well on his essay for the tests. On average, he is answering all the questions within the time allotted and getting 3 questions wrong."
"Another great session with the student! We began by outlining three practice essays in order to review the "formula for an essay" that the student and I have developed together in tutoring. Today, we focused on how to turn specific examples into a generalized thesis statement. Next, we began working through practice test #5. She has improved significantly in the math section, but we both agree that we need to continue practicing finding the "key" to the harder problems quickly enough to have time to solve them. From now on, we're going to work exclusively on difficult problems so that we can improve this skill in a targeted way. She got a perfect score on the critical reading section she did, and we agreed that the student doesn't need to practice critical reading in a focused way anymore-- we'll just brush up with practice sections every now and then. Between sessions, the student completed a practice test that we will begin reviewing in our next session. We'll then continue practice test #5."
"The math section is giving him some problems because he just hasn't seen some of the math in school yet. He hasn't learned the Pythagorean theorem yet, so we did some of those practice problems. I taught him to use the mnemonic device SOHCAHTOA in case he runs into a trigonometry problem. He knows enough about linear equations and algebra to do most of the work."
