Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed for his first test. We went over vocabulary, segment addition postulate. Bisecting the angle or segment and solving equations."
"The student and I studied for her upcoming math exam which will cover various methods for solving quadratic equations (factoring, the Xbox method, squaring rooting, the quadratic formula). She has a clear process for answering each problem type."
"We worked on reviewing for the student's retake test and reviewed some homework problems. I left him with the goal of organizing his binder."
"This week, the student was working on similar figures, mainly triangles. She recognized the connection between similar figures and the dilations we had done last week almost immediately, which means she has a good conceptual understanding of both. We worked on her homework, some pages from a workbook, and then did some additional practice problems about similar triangles. Her homework featured a pretty complex multi-step problem about similar rectangles, and she worked on that for a while, and then I found another similar problem to also work on. Overall, she gets the concept of similar triangles and sides being in proportion, and she did well."
"We worked on understanding the key features of a quadratic equation, such as whether it opens up or down and has a minimum or a maximum. We also looked at how to find the vertex as well as the line of symmetry by just looking at the equation. We then practice graphing quadratic equations by plotting various points."
"When I met with the student on Sunday we went over the flashcards that we finished as well as some of the final exam questions. She seemed a lot more focused this week and she seemed to understand the conjectures (what they mean, and how to recognize which to use) a lot better. I believe that she will continue to improve if she carries the same attitude throughout all of our sessions. When we went on to review the questions from the final exam, it seemed as though there was a lot of material that her current professor hasn't gone over in her class including proportions, sin, cos, and tan, sum of the angles of a polygon, etc. These concepts were new to her when we went over them, but she seemed to understand them very well. Overall it was a very good session"
