Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's practice FRQs. Specifically, the questions we went over discussed, rates and kinematics, thermochemistry (entropy, enthalpy, and Gibbs Free Energy), and a bit of light spectra. The student was struggling mainly with finding the best way to apply concepts into a conceptual problem that has no numbers to work with. While he does know the material, he has trouble in figuring out which information he needs in order to solve a problem. It seems to me that maybe his conceptual foundation is weak due to a poor teacher. He also did mention that the textbook his class is using is quite dry and sometimes too dense for him to understand so I suggested that he look at other resources like videos that can help explain some of the concepts so it does not feel like he is reading a dense textbook."
"We reviewed the five different types of chemical equations and looked at examples of each, how to identify them and how to predict them. Additionally, we looked at more specific descriptions of equations using activity series and talked about precip, redox, and neutralization reactions. I hope to cover solutions next time. The student remains a pleasure to work with. I asked him to review solution concentration calculations for next time."
"During this session, we went over molarity, molality, solubility, ppm, ppb, ppt, mass composition, colligative property, etc. We went through the student's notes and did a couple of questions overall this session went well."
