Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I revisited what to do with fractions when multiplying, adding, dividing and subtracting. We also covered exponents and began solving word problems with fractions and variables. I introduced her to quadratic functions and their graphs, and we solved several complex functions where a fraction was raised to the xth power."
"Worked on factoring, exponents, long division with variables, and synthetic division. Seems to be grasping the material well, but needs a bit more practice with some concepts. We will continue practicing these concepts and move forward for next session."
"We continued to work with graphing linear equations and solving inequalities. We also introduced graphing inequalities and how that is similar to and different from graphing equations. We practiced with questions from a workbook provided by the student."
"The student and I went over rules for exponents and how they behave as well as how to simplify equations with exponents. Her confidence is down so I will be working with her to build her confidence back up and give her a strong foundation to succeed this semester. She seemed to have a much better attitude about the math at the end of the session."
"We went over the newest weekly concept of proportions. There are two ways to solve these kinds of problems: scale factor and MPOE. The student said she was more comfortable using MPOE to solve for x, which is great because it is the harder of the two. Scale factor is used when the fractions in question are the same, but represented at a different scale. She made an 81 on her most recent test, and a great deal of the errors were minor transgressions due to misunderstanding the directions. We went over test corrections and how to use the slope-intercept formula to solve for a missing intercept."
"The student returned from vacation with the same dedication as always. I helped her through her math homework on roots and radicals. She was able to complete a large portion with only a few questions to get her on the right track. She seemed to grasp and understand well the concepts involved. A continuing theme is her improvement in thinking through and deciphering word problems. I see huge improvement from the start of the year. Midterms are coming up for her, so next week I will likely be helping her revise for the various exams she has. Very good session. I am so happy to see her making progress!"
