Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I focused on Reading and English. She completed a reading section in the allotted time and answered all questions correctly. I think she was very excited to see this kind of progress being made. She also completed some of a math section. She did very with the math questions. She could also see improvement in math."
"The student and I mainly focused on the reading and science portions of the test today. His assignment is to take a full practice test sometime this weekend."
"Today we reviewed a practice Science test. We then focused on English. I had her complete some drills and practice questions. She is more comfortable with the usage/mechanics questions than with rhetorical skills. We will have 2 more sessions before the September test."
"We started with example problems from the website for systems of equations, sequences, and sets. We did that for the first hour and then went over the problems she got wrong in the science section that she did for today. After we finished that, we went back to math and started doing percent change problems. For Thursday, she will do 5 flashcards for each math topic we went over for today and will do another science practice section."
"We finished the diagnostic tests for ACT science (Diagnostic Set 2) and ACT math (Diagnostic Set 2). The science test had a really hard question set to start. After, I went over a few basic properties and principles of the physics of light, he seemed to understand the questions with much more ease. Aside from that, he aced the rest of the test and did really well on the math. I think he is starting to remember everything he's forgotten and I can already see some great progress."
"We worked on math problems to start out with. I then had him do two reading passages while I timed him. He did well on both of them and finished below the time limit. Then he did an English section in which I timed him as well."
"For this lesson, the student and I went over the practice test that he had completed. He continues to improve on the Reading and Science, just needs more practice on some of the Math. For our last lesson, he will complete one more practice test."
"During this session, we worked on a little bit of each subject again. In math we went through surface area and volumes of 3D objects, and the angles, cords, arcs and properties of a circle. In reading we went through a 10 question section and worked on comprehension, as well as a half length test. We looked at cause and effect, similarities between the answers, and matching words. In science we worked on research summaries. In English we worked on sentence structure as well as grammar and usage. We looked specifically at verb tenses, being concise, and recognizing singular and plural nouns. Before next session, he will be working on geometry, reading, and science."
"We went through almost an entire practice test, and for the second time the student did really well on the English section. I believe he is improving greatly, and looking forward to his performance on test day."
"We started by going over the English homework that the student completed. She did much better with these last passages. We then continued going over the math section of practice test 2. We went over the questions she got wrong or wasn't sure about for about an hour. It was good practice, which we need for this section. We then moved on to science. We went over a couple passages from practice test 2 and worked on a couple new ones together."
"The student did okay on her English and Math review work, but had questions to go back over tonight. We also reviewed the Reading section together; Here, she had almost no trouble at all answering questions correctly. We touched on the basics of the Science section. For next week, I have asked her to complete some Science review work and a full practice Math section."
"We covered math and English today. The student is very strong in both. At this point, he is just attempting to clean up certain areas. In math, we have been able to go over a few shortcuts to save him a bit of time. In English, we looked at a few ways to use logic to figure out what the right answer must be if we are stuck between two."
