Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The client is taking a course in introductory research methods and wanted help with concepts. This week, it is about correlation. We went through her discussion questions and made sure she understood them, and then started on the process of putting together her research report. We created a template in APA format and pasted in all of the prompts with headers so she knows exactly which steps to take to fill in all of the appropriate information. Later in the week, we will proof her paper after she's had time to write it."
"We went over paired-sample and two-sample t-tests (calculating test statistics, finding critical values, and making conclusions). We also briefly discussed variance, standard deviation, and z-scores."
"The student is studying for her statistics final. She sent me her final review guide and a few additional problems. We went over the problems and she tried to solve most of them on her own. She did pretty well - she understands how to do most of the basics and knows some of the definitions/ concepts. She had some questions on definitions she was less familiar with, and I went over some example problems with her for each. She is doing much better with understanding how to calculate quartiles and analyze data. We have one session left which will be used for studying for the precalculus final."
"We got to know each other and discussed our backgrounds. We went over the syllabus and this week's homework along with its corresponding chapter. I helped explain her questions on standard deviations, identifying outliers, and normal distribution."
"We specifically covered confidence interval problems and briefly went over hypothesis testing. We created a 5-step system with formulas that the student can follow in order to solve any confidence interval problem. The student understood the topic conceptually, but needs more practice in order to avoid making minor mistakes. I left the student with a few practice problems which he can do on his own. I suggested that he do 3 problems a day from the textbook in order to stay refreshed on the concepts."
"The student worked on the take-home final exam. It was cumulative for the semester, with a significant addition of chi-square material. This was our final meeting of the semester for what has been a very satisfying tutor-student relationship."
