Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I worked on geometric series and sequences. She made two 90's and a 100. We have one final test left before all the material is complete. She is grasping concepts well and I feel confident in her ability to apply what she has learned to more problems. I feel confident with where she is at."
"The student and I worked on reading today. We went through a few tests, passage by passage, and worked on applying time-management strategies. When we talk about the questions together she understands them well. I suggested that she only answer the questions for three of the passages out of four. I also suggested that she read only the first and last paragraphs and the topic sentences of the paragraphs in between, to get a sense of the passage without using too much time. I also suggested a new order in which to answer the questions to improve her efficiency. She used the strategies on the last few passages and I think they helped. Continued practice will help her adjust further to the questions and the time limits. I will send a math test for her to take for next week, as well as additional practice for the reading section. Overall this was a good session!"
"The student devoted today's session to working through precalculus homework problems related to vectors, midpoints, magnitude, orthogonality, cross product, dot product, angle between vectors, word problems, physics applications, vector projection, and adding vectors."
"The student and I covered logarithms extensively. He seemed to be struggling with the concept of the log as the inverse of exponentiation. Besides discomfort with logarithms and the algebraic concepts behind them, he was proficient at all the other algebraic operations. I rarely had to correct him as I guided him through the review sheet on simple math errors. I gave him the logarithmic formulas and he seemed to do alright implementing them in practice. Logs are very confusing, but they are manageable with practice. I also showed him the various techniques employed to make logarithm equations much faster to solve."
"During this session, the student and reviewed logarithms and exponent rules. She has a makeup test next week so we were looking at several possible example questions that could be on the exam. She needed help with starting the problems because she did not always know where to begin; however, once she figured that out she was just fine. She shows a strong understanding of the material."
"The student and I went over material for the big exam that's coming up on Tuesday. This entailed review of areas and perimeters of polygons, and areas and circumferences of circles. We also needed to make sure that he was using correct notation."
