Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I focused on the sentence correction portions of the college entrance exam. We went through certain grammatical concepts such as who/whom and apostrophe usage in detail. At the end of the session, we verbally walked through an exam essay prompt. As usual, he was enthusiastic and diligent in his studies. Our plan for the next session is to write and score another essay prompt. Between sessions, he should review some grammatical notes that I will send him in the coming days."
"We went over the student's homework. We used that as a lesson to touch on things we have not gone over yet. This will be good because it will increase his exposure to concepts and approaches. We did a quick review of last lesson (essay section) and wrapped that up by consolidating ideas into a quick checklist that he can go over when writing his essays. We then started reviewing the writing section of the exam. We outlined the different types of questions that will be encountered, how to approach the section and how to study for it. We then started going over improving sentences and identifying errors, specifically with past and present participles and common pitfalls regarding these ideas. He had a great attitude towards the material and did not seem to particularly struggle with anything. I think that we introduced some new ideas to build on his prior knowledge, which was our goal. I left him with some exercises specifically relating to our lesson, on top of general test work."
"Today we focused on the Reading sections of the exam. She was able to complete most questions in both timed sections we completed. In the section with the most readings she did not complete all the questions, but she managed to finish nearly all of them. She is scoring a bit above average, but there is still room for improvement in this subject."
